Just Relax and Breathe
Let’s just sit still for 10 seconds and be mindful of our breath. What an amazing ability that we have. We come into this world knowing how to breathe. With each deep cleansing breath, we allow our bodies to function and enjoy everything around us.
Now, slow it down a little bit. We don’t have to think about our breath, it just occurs, but watch and feel the magic when we slow it down a little more and think about our breathing.
As I start to think about each breath in, I focus on the air entering my body, going deep down past my chest, into my belly and down to my feet.
I hold my breath as I focus and follow where the oxygen is going into my body and then I do a full exhale out of my mouth and enjoy the feeling of release.
Try doing this a couple of times over. Then just allow yourself to feel. Focusing on your breath is allowing your body to understand how you and your body feels.
We are always being told to take deep breaths to calm down. It has been proven scientifically that decreasing our blood pressure will help us in times of anxiety and stress. It makes us feel so much better and we can feel more in control.
Did you know that if you scheduled just 10 minutes a day to do calm relaxing deep cleansing breath work, you would feel rejuvenated? Did you know that you would be making your mind still and you would be putting your body into a meditative state, which would allow you to become less anxious and stressed within your day?
So just for the next few minutes please reward yourself. Get into a place where you are safe. It is always great to not be disturbed, but I do deep breath work in many different environments. On the train, when I am waiting at the doctor’s office, in between clients. You can do your breath work anyway and no one even has to know what you are doing.
Think of this as a nice treat to yourself every day.
Simply inhale in through your nose for the count of 4. Hold for the count of 5 and then release either out from your nose or mouth to the count of 6. Simply repeat. You can have your eyes open or closed, but I promise that you will feel different.
You may feel a sensation within your body such as warmth, coolness or just energy. The more that you focus on your breath work you will notice that your heartbeat will slow down. You will find yourself feeling calmer and more in control.
This is the stillness that everyone talks about with meditation. We can all get to this amazing place within the mind. A wonderful stillness will come over you and will find yourself feeling calm and relaxed. When you return to your world again by focusing on your deep calming breath work, you will find that your mind and body are calmer. You will be ready for the world around you once again and find that you can handle so much more in one day. You will also find that over time you will naturally slip into this deep cleansing breath work when you need to still your mind.
Your meditations will become easier to slip into. When stress or situations come into your life that take you out of your comfort zone, your breath work will help you take control of the situation and be able to act calmly and reasonably.
It is said that to be calm is the highest achievement of the self. So why not invite harmony, tranquillity, and peace into your life by allowing yourself to learn how to connect with your breathwork and find your stillness within your mind each day.
We all know that deep breathing is good for us. We all know that it is the deep breaths before we all start our meditations that will get us into our stillness of mind to reap the benefits, but how many of us do this each day?
